Heli Skiing in Kashmir-An adventure of lifetime

Gulmarg along with its immense beauty has Heli-Skiing as another important tourist attraction. Heli Skiing refers to Downhill-Skiing in which the skiers are taken up to the mountain-top by a helicopter, and then they ski to the bottom. Although the thought of sliding from high mountains might thrill the heart, it is an adventure one must try at least once in life.

Heli Skiing in Gulmarg was inaugurated in the year 2010, by Billa Majeed Bakshi who was an avid skier. He started skiing at the age of Four and became the first qualified Ski guide in India. The Skiing activities are monitored by the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF).

The Ski destination at Gulmarg is located on the slopes of Apharwat Peak at a height of 4,267m, which is just 20 km from the LOC (Line of Control).
The aura at the peak is so unusual to the place where the ride started- the surrounding is quiet, the weather is extremely cold, and you can hardly see anyone except the crew members of the organization. The view from this peak is thrilling.

The skiing experience in Kashmir is one of its kind as it provides a Back-Country Skiing with excellent quality of snow due to the lower temperature at that height. With such good quality snow and symmetrical pine trees, these peaks make the experience one of the best in the world. The place is convenient for the travelers as it is quite near to the Srinagar Airport and Jammu Railway Station, with Gondolas available to go up the cliff.

It is also an excellent place for beginners, as they can learn to Ski on a snow covered golf course with slopes made for all levels of skiers. Even the kids can ski in the areas made especially as per their skill levels. The kids use wooden boards, to reduce the level of injuries. For those having a second thought, here’s a sign of relief: The Heli-Skiing at Gulmarg claims to a have a Zero-Accident record.
